You ever went to work, school, and came home realizing that you have no idea what happened during the day? In other words, you have no memory of anything you did, but you did accomplish what you had to accomplish. You did your homework, without remembering that you did, but you handed it in, so you must've done it. You worked on a project at the office, and you handed the results to your boss, and your boss didn't nag you, so you must've done a good job. You went on a drink, met a couple guys, women, and came home forgetting who you have spoken to. Isn't is strange how our bodies can act without our input? That is known as a comfort pocket as I described in my previous post.
Comfort pocket is not a phenomenon I came up with. In fact, it's exactly who you define yourself to be in your reality. It's very attached to you, so you won't even know it's there. We all have memories, but why do sometimes we go several events without holding a single memory of any of them? So let's give a very brief summary of what a comfort pocket is. Comfort pocket is how you define yourself based on experience, habits, techniques, beliefs, events, activities, and others meshed together into a psychological reflex. In other words, it is your reflex (not really your muscles), but your actions can become automatic. So why do we all have comfort pockets? That's because life is too difficult if you have to rethink everything that you've already done successfully before. Let's say it's your first time using an electric can opener. You would follow the instructions on the manual (or just play around with it yourself) the first time, and open it. Imagine doing that every single day. You wouldn't necessarily go through all that reading or experimenting again. You will use the technique that actually worked and put it into your comfort pocket. Day after day doing it, opening that can will become a habit with all the experience you accumulated, so after a while, you might even forget that you opened your can of food and put it on your plate (or into your mouth). You probably will start to forget that you had canned food, or what it tasted like.
So what mechanism allows comfort pockets to work? Easy, I call it the one route method, where you just rely on one method to solve all your problems, or people call it "desensitization". You become de-sensitized to what you are doing, and it becomes forgotten. For those who likes to pump iron (lift weights), you'll forget the pain after doing it for a while. Other than the obvious endorphins (body natural pain killers), you'll still feel pain, but you'll forget about it because you don't think about it. We all like to do things efficiently. To do that we have to feel that minor things won't take a big chunk out of our lives. So we desensitize ourselves to it so they don't matter, and we can focus on what is important. That is the true purpose of a comfort pocket. We all have memories, in fact, you can even create comfort pockets to extract memories forgotten due to automated comfort pocket events, but we all tend to use our brains inefficiently. For example, you ever had something you did a long time ago, and you suddenly tried to do it again? Even though you can't do it as smoothly as before, your body can still remember parts of it right? (like riding a bike). In fact, I'm sure most of you just try to rush the activity so your body will do all the work without your mind input so you can accomplish it like before. Comfort pocket is memory. Anything you do in this world is actually IMPOSSIBLE to forget. However, our newer comfort pockets can overlap and hide the old ones. How is comfort pocket memory different from your normal memory?
Normal memory is VERY inefficient, but it gives the user a sense of control over their lives. The process usually goes like this, 1)Think of thought, 2)Find thought, 3) Express thought, 4) Double check for missing thoughts. Like for example, think of cooking a chicken, remembers the process, tries to remember while cooking chicken step by step, and checking to see what's missing. Comfort pocket works like this, 1)Event happened, 2) Trigger action. That's it. Two steps. No middle. Comfort pocket is very efficient. In fact, it's our true memory. It can not be forgotten (sometimes we all want to forget something, so it becomes a comfort pocket submerged inside other comfort pockets).
So is there a skill, problem, event that you want to go through but you can't because of your "past"? It's hidden inside your comfort pockets which makes up your comfort world. If you want to handle it, then you'll have to trigger and find the comfort pocket stopping your. Or else, you'll never be able to get over it.
